Here are the first six notes of St James Infirmary
Sometimes it can be difficult to hear differences in the way music is played. Usually there is space in time between hearing one and the other.
Thought it would be good to have each of the recordings (Rosemary and myself) played right after each other a few times along with the visual comparison.
The waveform for how I played it is on top and how Rosemary played it is on bottom.
Compare and contrast them.
What is the biggest difference?
- How is the first note similar/different (longer/shorter/same)?
- How is the second note similar/different (longer/shorter/same)?
- How is the third note similar/different (longer/shorter/same)?
- How is the fourth note similar/different (longer/shorter/same)?
- How is the fifth note similar/different (longer/shorter/same)?
- How is the sixth note similar/different (longer/shorter/same)?
Rosemary says
Neal:
I reviewing my recording to yours broken down for me here are my correction
1 Note: Longer
2 Note: Shorter
3 Note: Same
4 Note: Shorter
5 Note: Shorter
6 Note: Shorter
Neal says
The first question I listed is this
What is the biggest difference?
By that, I mean is my first not e compared to your note the most different or is your fourth note compared to my fourth note the most different, etc? (in length)
You did not answer that.
Rosemary says
#1 #2 #3 and #4 compared to you
I feel that I am not longing out the notes enough.
#4 needs to be a note to its self.
#5 Was to be a note to its self for I played it with the #6 note.
# 6 I believe is the only one corrected.
Neal says
Your first statement is not very precise.
Do you play note #1 longer or shorter (relatively) compared to me?
What do you mean when you say, “#4 needs to be a note to its self.” I do not understand that statement.
Do not use the words correct or incorrect. Use ‘same length’, ‘shorter’, ‘longer’ to describe the comparison.
Try again, I think this will be good for you to look at carefully.
