haha, interesting. Probably a good one to learn by ear actually. Go ahead and send me your recording, I’ll check it out.

Great news! A fun piece to play, Louie Louie, looking forward on learning.

Re Louie Louie : you are teaching us…are the rules re use of copyrighted material the same in educational situations?
-KT
Hey Katie,
Louie Louie is a very simple melody, you should be able to pick it up by listening to the original pretty quickly. And it’s on youtube.
Music is interesting because if you hear something and sing it back, you can probably play it. No one can stop that. You can teach music, the situation is a little different with education. I buy recorded music and books.
Most of the time I’m not going to distribute the sheet music for the tune, it will be more like you can try learning it by listening. I’ll check it out and let you know if you’re off. Like with Jamaica Farewell. Jamaica Farewell is an old tune, so I can send out the sheet music for that if I want.
I can help you learn any song you want. Unless I get the license to do so, I’m not going to send out the music and distribute it. To get something to learn from, you can either buy music or sheet music. I strongly encourage learning music by ear, even if you haven’t done it much before.
Thanks
-Neal
I actually am grateful that songs are protected….until they become public domain.
-KT
Of course music should be protected, but the laws gave gotten out of hand because of the Diney family. They lobbied to benefit themselves and got their way.

For learning music by ear, I think it’s good to slow it down. You also want to listen to the original. So I’ll learn it myself. I can at least give the first notes, what scales to use, etc. But no sheet music. I’ll also help if you get stuck.
Maybe set it up like I did with the scrolling and the notes (for Don’t Mean a Thing and a couple of others). It should be a good tune for ear training since it’s not too complicated.
