Challenge #4: Rhythms with upbeats
Submission Deadline: May 12, 2013 (passed)
Play these rhythms perfectly in time, at a tempo (probably slowly) that makes the rhythm even. The measures are each repeated so there are three different measures each played twice.
You may want to use a metronome with this challenge.
The first eighth note is on the downbeat, the following quarter note is on the upbeat.
So downbeat, upbeat (held), upbeat will be the first three notes. And that is repeated three more times in the first line.
You can probably play the first line in one breath, but breathe where you need to.
Recordings:
Recorded these a few ways, each file is an mp3, so right click and save it. First is slowly with each line separated by a measure of rest.
After that is at a faster tempo. Realized that I played the eighth notes somewhat staccato, so then I did a recording them legato. If you play notes shorter that means you still have the same amount of time before you play the next note, otherwise you are rushing. Longer or shorter notes have to do with articulation and the style of music you play.
