Share some of your favorite music here! Preferably through Youtube or something that anyone can access.
First one I’m going to share here is from the World Saxophone Quartet, playing a song called ‘Hattie Wall’.
Paul Contos of the Monterey Jazz Festival taught a bunch of us saxophone players this and we played it in a group of maybe 40 or 50 sax players from 11-18 years old.
Here’s one that Kate shared.
A little Stan Getz, playing Chega de Saudade, a tune I’m working on right now.
And this is a German saxophonist. Thilo Kreitmeier. Doing Mo Better Blues:

And then – while I am at it – imagine being able to play this: Derek Brown:

But then – keeping it modern – I also love Leo P. He is a hero on the Bari:

Thanks for sharing these, I have seen Leo P. and Derek Brown at NAMM. Just watched Leo do a demonstration, but I talked with Derek Brown, seems like a good guy and can really play.
My most modern (I’m 56) hero on the sax is Masego:

I found an incredible tenor saxophonist on you tube. Abra Graves Jr. who has to be in his late 80’s and is a WWII vet (PFC 315th Bomb Wing). Fantastic sound and improv. Look him up.

Brooks
Cool, thanks for sharing Brooks, listened to a few of his videos just now. Tried to find some background on the guy (saw your comment) just now, but didn’t come across anything yet.

Glad everyone is enjoying these.Dad has been a playing pro since he was about 16,so he knows these songs.Wasn’t so familiar with “One and Only Love” which is more of a straight vocal. These are all first takes. We don’t want to wear him out!
I found a website that has free backing
tracks to help with practicing the saxophone. Here it is if anyone is interested: http://www.8notes.com/saxophone/playalong/
It’s not free so disregard this website that I sent. After a few plays they want you to pay. 🙁
All right, thanks Kelly
Try looking at this 10 year old Russian kid playing tenor. He is now 13. Imagine what he will be in a few years. His daddy ain’t too shabby either!

Yep, he’s pretty good. Good tune (link is to him playing ‘Fly Me to the Moon’), another one I’ve been meaning to work on some more.
Hi Tribe – Had the pleasure of seeing Bob James and David Sanborn at the Plaza Live in Orlando last night. Tribute to Dave Bruebeck, also pieces from Double Vision, and some Straight Ahead Pieces. Totally Enjoyed. I really studies Sanborns mouthing and finger techniques
Very cool, sounds like you had fun!
How would you describe the movement of his fingers?
I love the variation in music on here! Its great that everyone is aiming for the same goal, but with a different style or character in mind! That said, here a piece I have just started to tackle for my ear training ( because I want to learn the solo at the start, but there is no sheet music for it…. Anywhere!) I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Thanks for sharing Sam, checked a couple of those out.
Great video showing how to play up tempo; 1949, early rock and roll.
Can you put the code or link somewhere so I when I buy sheet music SaxTribe gets credit or whatever they give you? I find books less useful now. I play parts of lots of songs and maybe all of 3 or 4 per book, so I would rather just purchase the songs I want to really attack.
Thanks for the suggestion, just put a search box that links to sheet music plus on the music page. http://saxophonetribe.com/saxophone-music-to-play/
I have been working on What A Woderful World, would like to learn an emotional version of The Water Is Wide. I sound so vanilla when I play real songs rather than just play. I also think I would likebthesound of Georgia on My Mind on alto sax.
Should have put this in my earlier response.
Dang Neal! I would have to be experiencing extreme caffeine withdrawal to get from slow and precise to playing one part of “Hattie Wall” with ant tone and rhythm. It is fun to hear and see!
I see what you mean, thanks for the input.
All I can say is wow, that is a lot of different rhythm’s and speed and
articulations how long did it take to learn all the different parts, way above
my abilities.
Hey Gil,
I have played the tune, the basic tune is fairly simple, you can hear the bari sax part going through the song, not really changing. Like a bass line. They’ve got music stands with charts.
You hear James Carter improvising quite a bit in this. The altos improvise too. So that’s not something they learned beforehand but it’s created depending on what they are able to play.
